BLACK.face

Some call it arrogant...
I call it confident!

There's a lot of controversy surrounding Beyonce's recent spread in L'Officiel Paris where she appears in "black face." The spread is paying tribute to legendary Nigerian political singer Fela Kuti, who died in 1997. Bey's hubby, Jay-Z is the producer of the play Fela!, a musical which celebrates the life of the Nigerian star -- which is where Beyonce got the idea to do the spread where she VOLUNTARILY opted to do a black face. Critics of this spread attack Beyonce for her disrespect & disregard for the deeply rooted history of black face in the United Sates, in that it symbolizes racism and discrimination.
Now for my opinion......
All I have to say is YASSSSSSSSSSS Bey WERK!!! This is absolutely fab, creative, and artistic, and this is coming from an African American female. We think to much into things and make things deeper than they are. This is art, nothing more nothing less. To be honest I think Black people need to get over themselves and abandon this 'woe is me' mentality or we will never grow to see our full potential as a culture. We are our biggest setback. At the end of the day, how is Beyonce in black face affecting your life? What have you done to better humanity lately? There's more important things to be concerned about than what shade Beyonce wants to paint her face today. Yesterday she was bleaching her skin and she's too light, now she's doing black face and she's too dark....I cant. Like I always say, if people aren't talking about you, you're not doing something right. If you don't do anything else in life invoke conversation....spark controversy...keep people talking. Beyonce clearly did something right, whether you agree with it or not really doesn't matter but she's winning because she inspired you to think.

  1. You have a valid point. The fact of the matter is that a lot of people are afraid to "stand out". Everyone wants to fit in and be the same. When you start exploring the unexplored thats when people start talking and aspiring for greater things. You can't aspire for more if everyone else around you is doing the same thing.
